Also, now is the time to consider some food preservation projects – canning, drying, jams & jellies, salsas. Speak with your favorite vendors about advice on different ways to preserve some of cornucopia of summer as well as which items they have in quantity to save for later.

Happy early Fall – see you at the market!

This week at the market we welcome market favorites The Mighty Shims who will play in Ketchum & Spare Change who will grace us at the Hailey market.

Ketchum August 23rd

The Mighty Shims play an eclectic mix of Americana, from swamp to Indie garage, 30s swing to folk, contemporary ballads to pop interpretations, some blues, and a good dose of lively originals.
The band consists of Jim Paisley, Chip Booth, and Fletcher Brock. They are each accomplished musicians sharing duties on acoustic and electric guitars, acoustic and electric bass, and occasionally mandolin. All three are versatile vocalist. Three part harmonies and deft solos are a strong suite. Although this project is the first time these three have shared the stage as a band, the members of the Mighty Shims have been in the main stream of the Wood River Valley’s music scene for decades. They have worked with bands such as the Toast Points, Bobos, Kim stocking Band, Public Radio, and on many other acoustic and electric projects. The Mighty Shims performances are spontaneous, often improvisational, energetic, sometimes moody, and will generally be a delightful interactive experience for the listener.

Hailey August 25th

Spare Change formed a few years ago originally by Peter Boice and Chip Booth playing mandolin and guitar and singing lead or providing harmonies on a mix of folk, blues, country, bluegrass, and original songs. Chip taught music in the valley for several years and has been a member of or a guest musician in many bands including The Mighty Shims, Bruce Innes, and others as well as being a long time member of the Kim Stocking Band as well as being a founding member of Public Radio. Peter has played in a couple of bands including CMD, and Tastes Like Chicken but has done the majority of his performing with Chip. More recently Spare Change has added the talents of Lawrence Smart on Fiddle and vocals. Lawrence if a newcomer to the valley and has the distinction of being one of the best Luthiers in the country providing beautifully crafted instruments to many lucky musicians and collectors. He brings great stage presence and several new songs to the mix in jazz and swing genres. The guys have been working hard gaining a bigger sounds now with three and an even more diverse range of music styles. They are perfecting their multi-part harmonies and crafting a tight contiguous sound with an eclectic mix of original material and covers from Fats Waller and George Gershwin to Gregg Brown and The Grateful Dead.

This week at both Ketchum & Hailey market’s we welcome back Cary Judd.

Cary Judd undoubtedly redefines the one-man-show. Deceptively understated as just a man and a guitar, what you see is not all what you get. Cary begins each show playing a riff or progression that finds itself embellished in a swirl of drum and guitar loops that he masterfully creates with a series of electronic pedals at his feet.
