Judd and Heather McMahan are the masters behind Wood River Organics. Their 50 acre farm located to 2 miles west of Bellevue, ID at the historical Cal-Pacific ranch and is a certified organic farm. Judd grows a variety of vegetables focusing on root vegetables such as beets, onions and carrots, and a wide variety of salad greens including mesclun mix, spinach, kale, swiss chard, arugula, braising greens, and bok choy. Judd started farming 8 years ago on 1000 square feet and now Wood River Organics is the largest certified organic farm in the Wood River Valley. Their greens are packed full of nutrients, so fresh, tender and sweet because of the cool mountain mornings.

They work hard to preserve soil quality growing cover crops and grasses to help supplement the soil with nutrients making it a perfect environment for growing carrots and beets. Judd has a real passion for growing all his produce organically and wants to thank all the patrons that support the local family farms making it possible to provide fresh local produce to the Wood River Valley.

At Homestead Natural Foods, we’ve gone back to raising cattle, pigs and poultry the way our grandparents did: grass fed and finished, with no hormones or antibiotics.

Cattle, pigs and poultry raised in “concentrated animal feeding operations” (CAFOs) may cost less at the checkout stand, but you pay a high price in taste and nutrition. You see, beef, pork and chicken raised on natural pastures don’t just taste better… they’re better for you. And when it comes to flavor, just ask the folks who have eaten our grass fed beef, pasture pork or free range chicken at Idaho restaurants and specialty grocers.

Grass fed beef, pork and chicken raised with sustainable agricultural practices may cost more, but like our grandparents would have told you back in the day, you get what you pay for. And when it comes to your health, isn’t that worth a little extra?

It is like sorbet without the added sugar, additives and stabilizers. Just Fruit Zorbet is also fat-free, dairy-free, soy-free and gluten-free. It’s very nutritious and is often made with fruits high in antioxidants.

Eating whole fruit is the best way we can get the nutrition that fruit has to offer. Just Fruit Zorbet is made with whole fruit and a bit of unsweetened juice acting as the “seasoning”. Because the zorbet is made with the edible part of fruit, you may find small pieces of apple or peach skin, or pineapple or mango fibers. It is the whole fruit that gives the Zorbet it’s exceptional flavor and nutritious fiber content.

The Zorbet is made with local and organic fruits whenever possible. Peaches and pears from Water Wheel Farms in Emmett, Idaho are used and add a special “fruit like you remembered it as a kid” taste to the zorbets. Also available are Kale smoothies made with fruit, kale and yogurt. Just Fruit Zorbet is also now offered in 10 locations from Sun Valley to Twin Falls. Come by Sheila Plowman’s booth and have a frozen fruit sorbet or smoothie or lemonade on a hot summer day.

Strolberg uses no chemicals to control weeds or insects, or to add nutrients to the soil of her 1-acre garden. But, Theresa will describe her produce to you as ‘natural’, not organic. This is because the organic certification program is costly, and doesn’t stand up to her more stringent values.

Her garden provides food for her family for all year, and she puts up many items, canned, preserved or otherwise. She attends the Ketchum Farmers Market and the Twin Falls Markets too. She has been growing for roughly 30 years, and lives nearby Buhl.

Traditional garden vegetables are to be had at her stand, as well as wine grapes, plums and peaches. Walnuts, chutneys, whole grain breads and fruit pies are also some delicious items she sells. The pies use only her own honey as a sweetener and have whole wheat crusts. They are individually-sized and seem like a radically improved version of toast and jelly.

When she’s not in her garden or kitchen, Theresa may be voicing her concerns about chemical spraying over at the town hall, or State legislature. As for upcoming projects, she has collected numerous testimonies from persons who have been exposed in a variety of manners to pesticides and herbicides. A book idea is taking shape . . .

My name is Nancy Liston and I am the proud owner of Liston Studios, LLC and Liston Artistry. My involvement with the Farmers Market was an idea I stole from fast food restaurants: “Do you need a plate (fries) to go with that?”. Okay, let’s forgive the improper English, and that fast food has absolutely nothing to do with the gorgeous fresh food from the market. It just seemed a perfect fit.
My product shown at the market is a platter collection that changes with the seasons. Each piece is hand-painted in my studio, located in Hailey, Idaho. I also sell platters around the intermountain west. Presently, I am expanding the business to include Liston Artistry, which sells directly to five diamond hotels and custom requests.
Sometimes I can wrangle my sons to help set up the market fair. The production is entirely my own, and if I have any time to spare it’s spent snowboarding in winter. Summers are a blur.
I love the market. The vendors. The customers. The dogs. The children. The fresh mountain air. I hope you’ll stop by to visit me and see my artistry on platters! Regards, Nancy Liston
