Family Canning Workshop

You’ve spent the summer toiling in the garden and now it’s time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.  Harvest time is here, but what to do with all the extra fruits and vegetables you’ve gathered?  You’ll be able to enjoy them throughout the winter after you attend the Sawtooth Botanical Garden’s canning workshop.  Join us in the Garden’s kitchen on Friday, October 9, from 4 – 7 pm to learn the basics of food preservation with Kaz Thea.  In addition to managing the Hailey Farmer’s Market, Kaz is an avid gardener with extensive experience in home canning.  She will teach attendees how to make salsa, as well as, pickle vegetables.

The entire family is encouraged to attend because there are fun jobs for even the littlest hands.  Children love the sense of accomplishment from making their own food.  Make canning your new harvest-time family tradition.  Light refreshments will be served.  Cost is $10 for Members and $15 for Non-Members.  Discounts are available to those that supply their own materials.  Pre-registration is required.  Please call 726-9358, or e-mail heather@sbgarden.org for more information.

Through education and fun the Sawtooth Botanical Garden hopes to plant the seed of their larger vision: Celebrating Plants and Inspiring People to live in appreciation and balance with nature. All programs are supervised by SBG staff educators with First Aid and CPR certification.

Wood River Farmer’s Market – October 6 & 8

October 6, 2009

Peaceful Belly

The end of the season has arrived for our local farmer’s market with today’s market in Ketchum (10/6) and Thursday’s market in Hailey (10/8). All of our vendors still have an excellent selection available for sale. Fall harvest has brought a wonderful variety of fruits and vegetables to the farmers stalls and our craftsmen, wine sellers and chefs off some of the finest products in the valley – all handcrafted with loving care.

Come on down and show your support for our local economy. There will be some great deals and you can speak with our vendors to find out what and where their products will be available after the markets are over.

Thanks for all your support. See you at the market!
